Homosexual people make up at least ten percent of the population, that means if there is a classroom of thirty students, probably more than three of those people are gay. Homosexuals have been battling for their equal rights for many years. Maybe this year will be different.
Gays could not marry in certain states. Until they have been marrying in Massachusetts, opponents of same-sex marriage swept Election Day, with voters in 11 states approving that homosexual's can get married, And then soon enough Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Montana, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Ohio, Utah and even Oregon began to let homosexuals get married in there states. Gays should be able to marry the person that they love. The one they want to spend the rest of their life with.
People can see public affection every store, restaurant, alley, street, just everywhere. When straight men and women show public affection no one cares. But when homosexuals do someone has to make a hostile comment. Gays should be able to do something without someone saying something rude. That is called discrimination.
When comes to homosexuals establishing families, there are some complications. In most states, gays can adopt children like any other married or single adult. Some people believe that it should be legal nationally, while others think that it should be banned everywhere, or at least in their individual states. Homosexuals should be able to adopt children. If that is what they want is kids than if they are patient enough for some then they should be able to get them.
Marriage is traditionally viewed as the legal union of a man and woman as husband and wife. However, what happens when those two people are two men or two women? This topic of gay marriage has been a major issue in the United States over the past few years. It has raised several political debates as well as other minor arguments throughout the United States and around the world. Until recently, homosexual couples in the United States were allowed to marry. Recently, a series of events change the standing of homosexual marriages in the United States. The Supreme Court's ruling in Lawrence v. Texas repealed a Texas law that made sodomy a crime in order to affirm the privacy rights of homosexuals. In November 2003, the Massachusetts Supreme Court ruled that the state cannot deny marriage licenses to homosexual couples. Following the Massachusetts decision, more gay marriages occurred publicly across the nation from San Francisco to New York. President George W. Bush responded to these activities by urging Congress to pass a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriages. On May 17, 2004, Massachusetts became the first state to grant legalized same-sex marriages.
In 1992, Vice-President Dan Quayle said that homosexuality "is more of a choice than a biological situation...It is a wrong choice." (1). Quayle's statement counters the sentiment of many homosexuals that their sexual orientation is neither a lifestyle nor a personal choice, it is innate and unchangeable (2) . Is homosexuality a choice or does sexual preference have a biological basis? This question is at the forefront of academic, scientific, political, legal and media consciousness (3). The debate over homosexuality has influenced a myriad of research in finding a biological cause for differences in sexual behavior
Homosexuals
The debate over homosexual marriage is a hot item right now, so I thought for my first political entry that I would throw my two cents worth of opinion into the ring. Ok, maybe a nickels worth.
I am against homosexual marriage, civil partnerships, and anything that resembles marriage between two people of the same sex. To me, marriage will ALWAYS be a union between a man and a women, and they will live together as one entity til death. Anything other than that is in my mind an extreme perversion of such a beautiful gift given by God.
Having said that, I do believe that homosexuals have a valid argument for marriage. To understand why I believe that, I must open up another issue that I feel strong about; Divorce and re-marriage.
I think that divorce has it's place in our society. If a spouse is being physically and/or emotionally abused and the abuser refuses to stop, I believe that a divorce should take place, especially if there are children involved. If a spouse is unfaithfuly, and refuses to stop, then I would say that a divorce would be appropriate, but in all cases I believe it should be the ABSOLUTE LAST RESORT. Married couples need to remember that line in there vows, "'until Go
